Set up in 1999 as an offshoot of a major sister organisation established in the Maltese food industry since the 1960s, DICAL Premium Foods soon found its niche in the local market with a vast selection of quality international foods.
The Maltese market was very receptive to the introduction of DICAL's new delicacies from the four corners of the world, therefore the quality brands soon became well known and sought after.

In the meantime, the Group took over the marketing and operation of the family apiary established in the 1920s. The apiary itself was extensively developed and renovated. The investment also included a video room and observatory to be able to accomodate visitors of all ages on educational tours.

 

Eventually the Managing Director, who had extensive background knowledge of export marketing and international trading, set up DICAL International Trade to take advantage of the islands' unique location in the middle of the mediterranean. The unique location being Malta's position as the European Union's southernmost tip, close to North Africa, coupled with a people who understand the Arab culture thanks to a strong Arab influence on the island, including the semitic based Maltese language.

The DICAL Group was hence formed and included the establishment of other service operations like marketing and property related services.
